Our Focus

Committed to improving lives in Rhode Senate District 17.

Healthy Aging in Rhode Island

Rhode Island has one of the highest proportions of older adults in the country. Citation:

Communities must adapt so people can age with dignity, independence, and connection.

That means strengthening healthcare access, housing options, and community support for older residents.

“Housing isn’t just an economic issue, it’s a health issue that everyone deserves to have a voice in."

Affordable and Accessible Healthcare

As a psychologist and cancer survivor, Nelly understands both professionally and personally how difficult navigating the healthcare system can be.

She helped expand integrated healthcare in Rhode Island so people can receive mental and physical health care in one place.

She believes healthcare should be easier to access, easier to understand, and affordable for families.

Housing Communities Can Afford

Stable housing is one of the strongest predictors of health and wellbeing.

Families, workers, and seniors across Rhode Island are struggling to find homes they can afford in the communities they love.

Nelly believes stronger communities start with housing stability.

Strong Small Businesses and Local Economies

Rhode Island’s small businesses are part of what makes communities vibrant and connected.

Local shops, cafés, and businesses create gathering places that bring neighbors together and shape the character of our towns.

But many small business owners are struggling to navigate rising costs and regulatory challenges. As a small business owner herself, Nelly understands these challenges firsthand and believes Rhode Island should be a place where small businesses can not only survive but also thrive.

“Rhode Island’s character lives in its small businesses and so much of the heart of what makes our State unique."

"No one should struggle to find healthcare when they need it most and I have spent my career making healthcare systems easier for people to navigate.”

“Real change happens when leaders listen to the people living the problems.”
